Preparation for the exam
- Wait at least 7 days after finishing any antibiotic therapy.
- Wait 5 days after the end of your period.
CHEMICAL-PHYSICAL URINE COLLECTION
COLLECT THE FIRST URINE OF THE MORNING
- Wash your hands with water and soap, especially the urethral orifice and surrounding area, then dry the cleansed areas.
- Open the FIRST sterile container, being careful not to touch the rim or the inside. COLLECT A SMALL AMOUNT OF THE FIRST URINE IN THE sterile container.
- Seal the container tightly, being careful not to contaminate the rim.
- Send to the laboratory as soon as possible, otherwise store refrigerated at 4°C for up to 24 hours. Keep away from heat sources.
URINE CULTURE COLLECTION
ALWAYS COLLECT THE FIRST URINE OF THE MORNING.
- Open the SECOND sterile container, being careful not to touch the rim, and COLLECT THE REMAINING URINATION (about 40-60 ml).
- Seal the container tightly, being careful not to contaminate the rim or the inside.
- Send the sample to the laboratory, otherwise store it in the refrigerator at 4°C for up to 24 hours. Keep away from heat sources. (Alternatively, for certain tests ONLY, you can use urine collection tubes with boric acid and store them at room temperature for 24 hours. Contact the laboratory for confirmation.)
Results are available in up to 7 days, also by email.
